Watercolor Emotions

Supplies Needed:

  • paper towel roll
  • scissors
  • watercolor paints
  • paint brush
  • water cup
  • paper towel
  • watercolor paper or cardstock

How to do it:

  • Cut your paper towel roll into 9 rings.
  • Shape a paper towel ring into the face shape you would like for a character.
  • Paint the edge of the paper towel ring with the color you want to use for that character and immediately stamp it on the watercolor paper.
  • Paint inside the stamped outline to create the face shape of the character.
  • Repeat for all characters.
  • Let the painted faces dry completely.
  • If you want to darken part of the face shape (like to create Disust’s hair), paint over it now.
  • After all of the paint is dry, use an ink pen or thin black Sharpie to draw the facial expressions!

Salt Art Sense of Self

Supplies Needed:

  • watercolor paints
  • watercolor paper or cardstock
  • water cup
  • paper towel
  • white glue
  • salt
  • tray

How to do it:

  • Discuss core beliefs students have about themselves and generate a list of 4-6.
  • Place the watercolor paper inside a tray.
  • On the watercolor paper, draw a vertical line from the bottom of the page halfway up for each core belief.
  • Then create a design stemming from the core beliefs that intertwines and overlaps.
  • Immediately sprinkle salt all over the glue design.
  • Shake off the excess salt.
  • Assign a color to each core belief and paint each vertical line the corresponding color.
  • Tap the watercolors throughout the design, entangling the colors with one another.
  • Let dry for 1-2 days.
