First Grade Gratitude Activity

Hook: Superpower

To start the lesson, I ask students to share what superpower they would choose if they could have any superpower in the world! I get lots of responses like invisibility, mind reading, etc. Then, I tell students that they could have a real life superpower: gratitude!

Story: Gratitude is My Superpower

We read Gratitude is My Superpower using Kindle Unlimited. Then, I ask students to share how they think gratitude could be a superpower. We talk about things like:

  • Gratitude has the power to change your feelings and actions
  • Gratitude has the power to change how other people feel and act
  • Gratitude has the power to change how we see the world

Whole Group Activity: Gratitude A-Z

All together, we make a list of things we’re grateful for through the alphabet. We add multiple things per letter to use as a reference for the next activity.

Individual Activity: Name Acrostic Turkey

Students get a turkey body and the same number of feathers as letters in their names. They write the letters of their first name on the tops of the feathers. Then, they write something they’re thankful for for each letter of their name. This gratitude turkey craft always turns out so cute! These are great to send home or to create a classroom bulletin board.
