Heading back after Winter Break is always a whirlwind for me. Where do I even start? Who do I see first? Where did we leave off? To get my footing and help set my students up for success, I focus on 3 main areas with them for a refresh. Keep reading to find my 3 January counseling activities that are musts for me!

January Counseling Activities
1. Expectation Review
After a long break from school, it’s always a good idea to review expectations. This will look different at each school, but I keep it simple. With my Kindergarteners, we review our specific school behavior expectations with our school acronym and then play a fun review game. Behavior BINGO is my go-to! 2. Goal Setting
With my individual students, we spend some time talking about what went well before break and where we want to improve. We set measurable behavior goals with a plan for checking in to talk about progress. Read more about what this looks like here on my blog.

3. Mindset Refresh
Most of my students do New Years goal setting in their classrooms with their teachers, so I focus on the mindset piece of this. We talk about what mindsets help us stay motivated towards our goals and what mindsets might discourage us. We spend time talking about things we can do now and how the things we already know how to do can help us make progress on our goals. Read more about what this looks like on my blog here.
