Cooperative Board Games for Kids

I love to do board games in counseling sessions to practice all kinds of social skills. Sometimes, I don’t want the games to be competitive and would prefer that students have a chance to practice cooperative skills to work on things like active listening, communication, planning, etc. Below are some of my favorite cooperative board games for kids that are great for small groups counseling or for classroom counseling centers!

Cooperative Board Games for Kids

Disney Eye Found It

This is a fun I-spy game where kids work together to find things on the game board while racing the clock to midnight! They’ll draw cards, set a timer, search for items, and then everyone gets to move ahead on the game board based on how many items were found. This is great for planning because kids can spread out on the board. It’s also great for timed attention to detail!

Race to the Treasure

This game from Peaceable Kingdom gives kids a chance to work together to build a path to the treasure. Kids will have to think ahead, plan, and strategize to beat the Ogre to the treasure.

Outfoxed

In this game, kids work together to solve the mystery of who stole Mrs. Plumpert’s prized pot pie! They move around the board to gather clues and use the information to collaboratively solve the mystery.

Dragon Dash

In this game, kids work together to build a path across the field while avoiding the dragons. Again, they are planning ahead, strategizing, and communicating throughout the game, so it’s great for these important social skills!

Robot Turtles

This cooperative game blends STEM into the game to introduce coding as a team. Kids use critical thinking skills to plan a path and code together. For more ways to integrate STEM into counseling, read here.
